Prince Riggs has owned Maggie Mae, hull #276, since 1983. He bought her from Tom Pinney — the first boat Pinney sold in his dealership — and she was shown at the Miami Beach Boat Show in 1984. Writing to Flicka Friends #9 (Summer 1997), Riggs explained that he had first named her Samuel Gay, after an old uncle of his, but that his wife always liked “Maggie Mae” from the Rod Stewart song, so he renamed her.

She has followed him around the country on her trailer: Fort Lauderdale until 1988, then back to Tennessee, then Savannah, Georgia in 1994 and Pensacola in 1995. By the time of the letter he had cruised her in the upper Keys and on the Tennessee River, and was planning a two-week cruise along the Gulf Coast.
